The men and women in our armed services have sacrificed everything to serve our country, and to serve it proudly. When our government sends them overseas with a job to do, they do all they can to see that that job is accomplished. It doesn’t matter whether you support the War in Iraq or not, you should support our troops for everything that they have given up to serve our country.
It has become clear that there are some congressional leaders who do not support our troops or give them the credit that they deserve for the jobs they do. Congressional leaders like Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who slandered our troops on the Senate floor today.
The violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda, said to these tribes: “We have to fight al Qaeda ourselves.”
I think it has become clear that the surge has helped in places like Anbar, but there are opponents of the war who will deny the sacrifices that our troops have made. Our troops fought to protect the tribes in Anbar from Al Qaeda forces, and some of them lost their lives in the process. These brave soldiers died for a cause that they believed in, and yet Schumer discredits their sacrifice.
It is sad that their our members of the U.S. Congress who do not support our troops. It is one thing to not support the war, but when you make a ridiculous statement on the Senate floor you are proving that you do not support our troops, because to make a statement like the one Sen. Schumer made is to suggest that the sacrifices of our men and women are futile. It is very disturbing to hear such a abhorrent remark from one of our own elected officials.
