A Must See Documentary
If you want a good look as to how the modern university approached the right of free speech, and the attack on the first amendment by the majority view on campus against the minority ideology then I would suggest you check out Indoctrinate U. It is a good look at what minority ideologies like conservatism on institutions of higher education are constantly under fire by not only students, but by the colleges and universities, and are threatened to be silenced because such views don’t conform with how the university wants you to think.
The movie itself starts off with discussing the topic of affirmative action on college campuses, and how people are trying to inform people of the reverse discrimination of affirmative action. Affirmative action is racist, and instead of talking about it in civil debate speakers are drowned out by the elite ideology of the campus. They are given a chance to be heard, to defend their views, and yet the other side will say what they will without hearing what you have to say. Liberals say that they are open minded, and condemn conservatives of closed mindedness, and yet they refuse to hear what the other side has to say. The university will not defend your view, because they want uniformity. The university wants to pressure you into submitting to whatever ideology they want you to. On a campus like Southern Methodist University in Dallas there have been affirmative action bake sales held to show exactly how discriminative affirmative action really is, and SMU shut down the event, and now universities all over the country have a policy that people are not allowed to sell non-prepackaged food to make sure that such events don’t happen on their campus. These universities say they are promoting diversity, but how diverse are you being when you are suppressing the free speech of a certain ideology?
At the University of North Texas an event was held by the Young Conservatives of Texas called Capture an Illegal Immigrant. The event itself was to promote the idea that illegal immigration is against the law, and those who come to this country without the proper documentation to come here then they are breaking the law and have come to this country illegally. The purpose of these laws is the safety of the American people, because as we saw with September 11, 2001 illegal immigration poses a potential national security risk. The event did not target any specific ethnic group, because illegal immigration is not an issue that concerns one specific group of people. The Young Conservatives of Texas believe that it does not matter where you come from, or who you are, if you come to this country by any other means than the proper way then you have broken United States law. The League of United Latin American Citizens and a local Espanic fraternity confronted YCT calling them racist and xenophobic, and later asked the University to restrict the organization’s freedom of speech. Instead of that the university watched YCT closely, and began a university campaign that promotes diversity in the university. The next year the same YCT chapter planned an event called Invasion that specifically discussed the potential security risk involved with illegal immigration. Before the event YCT-UNT had to meet with top university official and were asked (forced) to divulge in detail their plans for the event. Not too long after that they had a meeting with LULAC, MECHA, and other organizations discussing exactly what we were going to do, and YCT was not told of this meeting. As luck would have it, one of the members of the conservative organization happened to be in the same building on the same floor when the meeting was going on. The day before YCT was scheduled to have their event there was a table out on campus protesting our event. They didn’t even know what members of YCT had to say, and they were already protesting the organization calling the group racist, xenophobic, and a bunch of bigots. The Young Conservatives of Texas at UNT never specifically targeted any one group of people, and is adamantly against racism and discrimination.
While these examples are not specifically mentioned in the film there is a number of similar cases, in which the majority liberal ideology in the modern institute of higher education seeks to suppress the minority conservative ideology. Diversity is so welcome at universities these days that many universities have gone too far and actually promote segregation. These universities say that they are promoting diversity, but the one diversity they do not promote is intellectual diversity.
